About Me

Hello and welcome to first grade!  My name is Lisa Barrentine.  I have been teaching first grade since 2002 and it brings me great joy.  It is incredible to watch the growth that takes place.  While we are focused on learning, there is more.  First grade is also about developing friendships, learning how to problem-solve, becoming independent, thinking critically, recognizing emotions, being kind, and much, much more!

Now for a little about me!  I am RI born and RI bred.  I graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. I began my teaching career in Florida, teaching first grade for four years.  My husband and I decided to come back to RI to be near family and I was able to join the Dutemple community.  In 2018, I graduated from URI with a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.  Besides being a classroom teacher, I am also an instructional coach for the district.  I love supporting other teachers while learning from them at the same time.

We live in a small town with our two children, three dogs, two pigs, and chickens.  I enjoy spending time outside in nature.  My interests include hiking, boating, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, gardening, four-wheeling, yoga, reading, board games, and anything I can do with my family.

Teaching is my passion!  Together we will set goals, learn, reflect, improve, and grow.  I look forward to having an exciting and engaging school year while building relationships with all my students.
